Coffee Lab Roastery

Coffee Lab is a small batch coffee roastery, focusing on arabica coffees from a variety of origins. Coffee is individually roasted weekly for custom orders as well as the Coffee Lab branded range of blends and single origins. 

 

Coffee Lab Blends

 Alpha, Omega and Sigma are the core blends available in our range. 

Alpha Blend is our signature blend, established in 2009, it has gained a loyal following over the years from coffee drinkers at Culinary Table Restaurant, as well as other cafes in the northern Joburg area. 

 

ALPHA as the flagship in the Coffee Lab range, a blend of premium high-altitude arabica coffee beans from Africa, Asia and Central America.

ALPHA BLEND is an all-rounder, light in acidity on the palette for a flavourful espresso and a well-rounded finish when blended with milk.

 

 

OMEGA is the middle child in the Coffee Lab range, a hand-selected blend of premium high altitude Arabica coffee beans of only African origins.

OMEGA BLEND is a light to medium roast, giving it vibrant aromas with floral top notes and a light mouthfeel. Best enjoyed as a pour-over coffee or espresso. 

 

 

SIGMA makes a statement on entering the Coffee Lab range, a blend of premium high-altitude arabica coffee beans from Africa, Asia and Central America.

SIGMA BLEND is a medium-dark roast, therefore expect depth and boldness with every cup.

 


The Roasting Process

We roast our coffee in a Diedrich drum rotating gas roaster. The machine can run a maximum of 12kg per batch. Roasting weekly keeps product fresh, and allows our coffee experts the opportunity to fine tune each batch through digital chromatography feedback and sensitive, subtle adjustments. 

 The process involves a delicate balance of mechanical automation, and a trained eye. 

Once roasted, the coffee degasses over a 12 hour period before it is packed and shipped to order.
